Sound sits at a beautiful crossing. It is moving light — you can measure that with any physicist's oscilloscope. It is condensed prayer — you can feel that in any old church at vespers. When you tone, you are creating a wave that has both audible vibration and electromagnetic resonance: in cymatic terms, sound that can become visible. Frequency becomes form. That is why the voice is called an instrument — because the whole body is.

A simple practice

Sit. Bring to mind one soul who is suffering. Hum a low tone for the count of one breath, holding their image gently. Then hum a middle tone for one breath, releasing them with thanks. Then hum a high tone for one breath, returning to your own body. Close in silence. Three tones, one soul served, one heart offered.
